Springfield YMCA
March 13, 2006

Members Present: Jim Cinotto, Carol O’Connor, Jim Dahlquist, Arlee Grimsley, Derek Dexheimer, Nyle Robinson, Barb Bonansinga, Matt Lamsargis
Not Present: Mike Boyd, Sarah Carpenter

Jim C. called the meeting to order at 5:35. As of March’s meeting, Derek had not submitted the minutes for the February meeting.

Joe Friel, a well-known triathlete and author of The Triathlete’s Training Bible, will be in town on Saturday, March 25th at Memorial Hospital. An announcement regarding this was to be in the February issue of the Foot Trails, but was inadvertently left out. Arlee was working on labels for a special mailing to send out to all club members to let them know about this event.

Jim D. has been working with Graffiti Grafix to make the SRRC table skirt and also passed around an example of the brochure he is putting together for the club. The brochure will be for distribution at various club and non-club events and highlights the benefits of joining SRRC and includes an application form.

Barb has the social for March scheduled at Sebastian’s on March 25th at 7:00 pm. The April social had been scheduled for April 22nd at the Barrelhead, but with the recent tornados, that will need to be changed. Tentatively, Barb has scheduled May 20th for a poker run, June 10th for the Club picnic, July 22nd possibly at Maldaners or Smokey Bones, August 5th as the Golf outing, September 5th at Sammy’s Sports Bar, October at Bernie and Betty’s, November 11th or 18th possibly at Indigo and the Corkscrew for December 2nd or 9th. Two dates were available for the Monster Mash in 2007 at Northfield Center in rooms estimated to fit approximately 300 – 350 people in the event the club has a speaker. The dates available were 2/24 or 3/10. Carol O’ made a motion for 2/24 and Derek D. seconded it. The motion carried.

Matt Lamsargis, Race Director Liaison, discussed how he is concerned that he has not been contacted by anyone associated with the AMA 5K race. Board members felt he would be contacted when the race date was closer.

Members discussed Tim Butler’s decision to rent a tent for Springfield runners at Indianapolis’ Mini Marathon. Did the Club want to donate a portion of the cost of the tent? Although there was some concern that by doing this we would be supporting an event which directly competes with one of our Circuit races (i.e., the Lake Run), Barb made a motion to provide ½ the cost ($125) to recognize the success of the Half-Wits program, many of whom are planning to attend Indianapolis. Jim D. seconded the motion and the motion carried.

Final payment was made on the race magnets a week ago, so they should be available to be placed in the Lincoln Memorial Race Packets. Nyle is going to be adding biographies to the newsletter. Matt stated that someone from Memorial’s Organ Donor 2-mile Fun Run contacted him wanting to add the organization’s race to our schedule. The race is run in Washington Park. There was discussion on possibly combining it with the AMA 5K. Matt will research it further.

Meeting adjourned at 6:25 PM. The next meeting is scheduled for Monday, April 10 at 5:30 PM at the YMCA.
