mem_trans_graphicMemorial Medical Center’s Transplant Services holds an annual 5K Run/Walk to raise funds to benefit our Transplant Patient Assistance Fund.

This fund is utilized throughout the year to assist patients with emergent needs. The fund assists patients with:

  • Transportation expenses involved with doctor visits
  • Lodging needs for patients and their family members during pre-transplant workup, the period immediately following transplant surgery and during periods of treatment for rejection
  • Prescription Medication Costs and/or Co-Pays
  • Emergency Disaster Relief (i.e., home fire)

Approximately 200 community members participated in the 2008 Transplant 5K Run/Walk. Many of these members included transplant recipients, living donors and families of deceased donors. This event is a wonderful opportunity for patients and donor families to come together and share their stories. Speaking with others who have experienced the gift of a transplant is very healing for many donor families. It also allows them to truly see how their loved one’s choice to donate has benefited so others.

Memorial Medical Center’s Transplant Services Department raised $14,000 at the 2008 Transplant 5K Run/Walk for the Transplant Patient Assistance Fund. This was made possible by generous donations from sponsors, local businesses, members of the community and most importantly, our patients.

Receiving a transplant is a precious gift, and the Transplant Team at Memorial Medical Center is dedicated to helping recipients maintain a healthy, transplanted organ. Because of our dedication to our patients, we are proud to have a Patient Assistance Fund to help those with emergent needs.

Join us Saturday, September 12, in Springfield’s Washington Park for the 2009 Run/Walk.
