ohhh i gotta be the first!!! can i please have a reduced price because (1) i don’t want a shirt and (2) keep the goodie bag and (3) ill provide my own pins and (4) i have a number i can use – its 643 and just a little worn. can i please ask for an award that i can use…i like the new balance shoes at mossers – maybe the race directors can either buy them or ask mossers to donate them. and please dont think badly of me either for asking for all of this because i am a good runner and you should cater to me.
and…if i only want to run 1/2 of the 1/2 can i pay less?
Why are you so negative?
I am a new member of the SRRC and have bragged about the people that I meet at the races. I have stated the people that I meet are so nice and encouraging. I read some the of the comments for the Frostbite race and was appalled. It intimidated me that maybe I should not be entering these races especially if someone really doesnt want high school kids to enter because they are SLOW. Well folks I am 43 and not considered a speedy gonzolas by any means. I ran anyway. I met a really nice lady named Carol. We ran the last 5 miles together and met our personal goals. No, I do not get prizes or awards I get something much more valuable. I meet new people, make friends, exercise and have a real feeling of accomplishment when I cross the line. I dont mind spending money on entry fees because I waste a whole lot more money on alot less. Keep up the races SRRC. Dont let a few bad apples ruin it for all of us.
sara – you keep entering and running! we have more fun at the back of the pack anyways! i pay for that course to be open and i intend to use every minute i can – you know i simply gotta get a good value here!
if anyone thinks us slow fat guys should not enter races please let me know – and don’t hide behind anonymous or non-linked alias!
have a WARM evening all!!
I didn’t see anyone say that high school kids shouldn’t enter the Frostbite because they were SLOW. The poster was saying that the $30 entry fee to the two mile race eliminated high school runners who were “legitimately poor.” He meant financially poor, not talent poor.
Is there a charity involved with this race? Where does my $40 go? I’m only interested in running races for a cause and am curious if this one has one or not. Thanks!
Kendra,
You may get a response if you send an e-mail here: Abe@RunAbe.com
I’m wondering if it will work though because the link to http://www.runabe.com takes you to the SRRC homepage.
The Illinois Marathon and Half Marathon has a link to the charities using their race for fund raising here: http://www.illinoismarathon.com/charity.php
I am originally from Springfield and ran my first event in Chicago in 2007. I am definitely a new runner, I’m actually a runner/walker. I ran the Distance Classic in Chicago and even though I wasn’t very fast there was still support from the crowd for those of us in back. There were SO many people, I felt like I was really a part of something special. I won the accomplishment of a personal goal and it didn’t matter to anyone what my time was. I’m a little nervous running a race in my home town and I was just wondering what the crowds are like in Springfield. Any insight would help me know what to expect. Thanks.
crowds in springfield? i guess the definition of a crowd must be known to accurately answer that. there are spots of 4-5 people scattered throughout the longer races but if you want massive crowd support springfield (or any non large city race) will not be your preferred venue! the st louis st patricks day parade run is fun, lincoln 1/2 is a fun race with minimal crowd support – the police will clap for you though!
What’s everyone talking about?????
Is the half marathon course USATF certified?
Per the race director, the current course is not USATF certified.
hey admin…what does it mean to be “usatf certified” or not?

ok…i am off for better weather. heading to orlando for the goofy challange! hopefully i will live through it! hope all the snow melts and its 65 and sunny when i get back!
I just ran in Disney as well! It was my second marathon but definately the best! Enjoy the snow? I think the three most memorable words from Disney will be “Watch the ice!!”. My first marathon was in Honolulu on December 13th but it was 85 degrees!! For anyone on the border about registration for the Lincoln 1/2 I would say register NOW! This was my first 1/2 marathon 2 years ago and got me absolutely addicted to running! The crowds near SHG and at the finish give me the greatest exhilaration in the world and I love seeing the sites around which I was raised in an entirely new way. I was so surpirsed to win and hung up my Lincoln portrait with pride! It is a truly amazing event and I have so much hometown pride- I’m recruiting as many of my friends at school as possible to train and come run no matter what their running experience. The Lincoln half has never failed to disappoint and I know this year will be great too!
Congrats on Disney guys. We ran the Goofy as well, it was definitely an experience to remember. Never thought I’d run a race in FL wearing long pants, a hat, and two pair of gloves. Looking forward to the Lincoln Memorial as well, since we should be able to run a good time not having to worry about a full the next day.
Question: Is there a time limit on the half? I ran it last year but told a friend I would walk/jog it this year with him and it will probably be pretty slow. If you don’t know the answer, does anyone know how I would find out the answer? Thanks.
Hi Kirsten –
I just learned from the race director yesterday that participants will need to maintain a 15 minute pace, or a projected finish time of 3:16. After this time, there will not be course support (traffic control at intersections, water/Gatorade, etc.). Hope this answers your questions.
Some one asked if the 1/2 was opened to walkers. I don’t know the answer to this and could not find it on the website. Any answers out there?

The race does not differentiate between walkers and runners. Anyone is welcome to sign up. Participants will have 3:16 to completely the race. At that time, water stops will be closed and there will not be traffic control at intersections. This translates to a 15 minute per mile pace.
Does this race offer a finisher’s medal? What are the best hotels to stay in that are near the race? Thanks!
