Monster Mash 2010 – An Event Honoring Our Champions
The 2010 Monster Mash, the club’s annnual awards banquet held on Jan 30th at the Route 66 Hotel and Banquet Center, started off with Jessica Larson singing a song she wrote highlighting a few of the runs and people that make our club so unique. Most would agree that although it was her coming out debut as a singer song writer she was a big hit.
Next Barry House, in a way only he can do, got the crowd shouting, “I Love Running” as the ice breaker for a 25 minute keynote address that focused on the ups and downs of road running and all the value the club gets from its volunteers.
Next Melenie Reynolds the special events coordinator brought on the people who introduced the achievements of our Hall of Fame inductees. Although this section of the evening tended to go on longer than anticipated, it was great to hear all the history of the club and role the 2009 Hall of Fame inductees played in forming the SRRC and making the key races of the club so successful. Alan Avery introduced inductee Bob Hellweg, John Hartnett introduced Phil Peterson, Jay Rogers introduced John Hartnett, Barb Bonansinga introduced Genny DiStacio and Jin Cinotto introduced Bill Owens. The 2008 Hall of Fame inductees, Jay Rogers and Becky Baum were in attendance as well.
Finally the events came to awarding the Annual Point Series Champions (see list below). There wasn’t much energy left for dancing and drinking after all the award events this year so shortly after all the awards were handed out the party ended on a happy and lively note.

That was some Hall of Fame induction ceremony! Perhaps a time limit is in order for next year. I didn’t hear much of a mention of races outside Springfield, like Decatur and Jacksonville. All good races too.
