Phil Peterson served as the SRRC President for 4 years and was also on the Board 5 years as the Treasurer. He also served as a team leader for the Ekiden Relay Team that represented the City of Springfield and the SRRC for 4 years.
He has volunteered countless times to assist at SRRC races. To name just two of the races for which he provided assistance, he volunteered over 20 times for Abe’s Amble and the Scholastic Challenge alone.
He was nominated to the Springfield Sports Hall of Fame for his work on behalf of the SRRC and the local running community.
Phil also generously gave the SRRC the use of his conference room at Forsyth Insurance Company for monthly Board Meetings for several consecutive years. That same conference room was also used for a number of packet stuffing parties for Abe’s Amble, the Frostbite and Scholastic Challenge just to mention a few.
He also arranged for the use of the Island Bay Yacht Club (Phil is an avid and accomplished sailor) for the SRRC Annual Picnic. Thanks to Phil the Monster Mash was also held in that same beautiful setting overlooking Lake Springfield. He also worked with the SRRC Board to establish the High School Cross Country Awards program and to see that the funding for it remained current.
In summary Phil gave tirelessly to the SRRC over several decades and was always working hard to improve running and racing in Springfield.
