August 2018 - Club News Briefs

Finally, a news brief that doesn't start with "it's HOT"! Thank goodness for the break in the heat. I don't know about you, but I think we had a lot of fun in July! Women's Distance Festival had some crazy weather, and Brew2Brew was a blast! Here's what's going on with SRRC this coming month:

Race Updates

Club Programs

  • Abe's Army - the 10K training program has just TWO WEEKS left before the big day! On Monday, the recruits rocked the practice 10K on the course we heard a whole lot of runners got a PR! I'd say they are ready to rock this race! Oh, and the medal preview....gotta love the bling.

  • Triple Crown Challenge - Abe's Army members--are you ready to take it to the next level?! You won't regret doing the Triple Crown Challenge! To learn more about this program and to sign up, visit their page: www.srrc.net/tcc

  • Most Improved Runners for 2018 - keep an eye on your friends who are making running/racing improvements over last year in preparation for nominating them for MIR2018! To learn more about this annual award, visit the SRRC website: www.srrc.net/mostimproved

  • Brew2Brew Run - The feedback on this event was great. It was interesting to watch people's faces as the SRRC crew took over at some of the locations. There was also an occasional confused look by people downtown as small groups of runner streamed along the sidewalks. Watch for photos in the upcoming FootTrails newsletter.

Volunteering

Don't forget that volunteering for at least two club races is a requirement for qualifying in the SRRC Points Series and you get participation points as well. Since this club operates completely on volunteers, we appreciate your help! Click on a sign up link below to help out on one of many tasks!

Race Results

Club Racing Calendar - August

  • 8/9/2018 - Illinois State Fair Parade Run

  • 8/19/2018 - Abe's Amble 10K

  • For a full schedule and links to club races, see www.srrc.net/schedule

Member-hosted group runs

  • The rotational Saturday morning group run schedule is posted to the website for 2018. The runs are self-starting and you pick your own pace and distance. There's usually a good number of runners (and sometimes walkers) that if you want to join up with someone running your pace, you can usually find someone. But if you prefer to run alone, it's still good to run on the trails with other runners nearby. There's safety in numbers! All are welcome! Come introduce yourself! The trail schedule can be found here: www.srrc.net/group-runs

  • Wednesday night speed workouts are underway starting at 5:45 p.m. through October. Check the website weekly for information on the workout and location (Washington Park or SHG track). Do not feel like you have to be fast to do speed work. "Speed" is completely relative to YOU and your abilities! www.srrc.net/speedwork

  • Thursday night 5K (5:45 p.m.) @ Springfield Running Center. Check out their Facebook page for group run details.

  • Those don't work for you? Post up on the SRRC Members Facebook page to see if there are other groups you can join!
